A Parents Guide to Wrestling Hygiene
Hygiene & Safety Guidelines for Wrestlers
Stay home if sick — do not attend practice and notify your coach.
Report issues immediately — show your coach any rash, infection, or skin problem.
Cover all cuts — open cuts and scrapes must be properly bandaged.
Wear headgear — mandatory in every match and required during all practices.
Wash hands — before and after practice, and after using locker rooms.
Mat shoes only — wrestling shoes are for the wrestling room only; no outside shoes on the mats.
Shower after every session — use antibacterial soap after practice, matches, and tournaments.
Clean clothes only — wash all shirts, shorts, and singlets after each use. Long-sleeve compression shirts are recommended.
Disinfect gear — regularly clean headgear, shoes, knee pads, etc. Never share equipment or water bottles. (Headgear and shoes may be machine-washed on gentle.)
Nails & mouthguards — keep fingernails trimmed, wear no jewelry, and use a mouthguard if you have braces (required for matches).
Coach responsibilities: Mats will be mopped and disinfected before every practice, match, and tournament.
